Underwood’s Fifth Album Becomes Her Fifth #1 Country Album Debut!
Featuring the GRAMMY®-Nominated “Something in the Water,” the Album Marks the Best-Selling Debut for a Hits Collection in Any Genre in More than Six Years
Superstar Carrie Underwood makes it five for five this week as her newly released Greatest Hits: Decade #1 (19 Recordings/Arista Nashville) becomes her fifth consecutive album to debut at #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums sales chart. The 25-song collection – which includes her new single, the GRAMMY®-nominated smash, “Something in the Water” – tops the chart with first-week sales of 94,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan, delivering the best-selling debut for a hits collection by an artist in any genre of music in more than six years.
Greatest Hits: Decade #1 also powers its way into the Top 5 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart, debuting at #4, with the chart’s sales and streaming methodology registering an equivalent of 103,000 albums.
Remarkably, not since November of 2005, when Underwood emerged on the scene with her now-7x-Platinum debut album, Some Hearts, has any female artist debuted with as high an opening-week sales tally for a hits package.
“One of the most spectacular elements of Carrie Underwood’s career continues to be the sheer depth and breadth of her music, whatever the subject matter, from the most nuanced performances to songs that just blow the roof off,” remarked Sony Music Nashville Chairman & CEO Gary Overton. “With her Greatest Hits package debuting at #1, and ‘Something in the Water’ already a massive hit, it’s an incredible testament to how profoundly Carrie’s songs have connected with fans over the past 10 years, as well as the awesome promise of the decades of music still to come.”
Kicked off by the record-setting success of the Gold-certified Top-5-and-climbing first single, “Something in the Water” (penned by Underwood, Chris DeStefano, and Brett James), Greatest Hits: Decade #1 also includes the new song “Little Toy Guns” (written by Underwood, Chris DeStefano, and Hillary Lindsey) and four songs in never-before-released versions, as well as all 18 of Underwood’s #1 hits.

CARRIE UNDERWOOD PERFORMS WITH U2’S THE EDGE
DURING SURPRISE WORLD AIDS DAY (RED) CONCERT
Carrie Underwood performed last night as part of U2’s surprise World AIDS Day (RED) event in New York City’s Times Square by personal invitation from Bono. During Carrie’s performance she was joined on stage by U2’s guitarist The Edge during her poignant song “Change” from her 2010 Play On album.
The event was to thank America for the role it’s played in the AIDS fight. The world has reached the beginning of the end of AIDS epidemic with 13 million people having access to life-saving treatment compared to 300,000 ten years ago. Without the support of American leaders and citizens it would not have reached this point.
Additional performers included Kanye West as well as U2’s Adam Clayton, The Edge, and Larry Mullen Jr. who were joined by Bruce Springsteen and Coldplay’s Chris Martin. Former President Bill Clinton also spoke to the massive crowd.
You can watch the performance here.
“Change” lyrics -written by Katrina Elam, Josh Kear and Chris Tompkins
Whatcha gonna do with the 36 cents
Sticky with Coke on your floorboard
When a woman on the street is huddled in the cold
On a sidewalk vent trying to keep warm
Do you call her over, hand her the change
Ask her story, ask her her name
Or do you tell yourself
You’re just a fool
Just a fool to believe you can change the world
You’re just a fool
Just a fool to believe you can change the world
Oh, whatcha gonna do when you’re watching TV
And an ad comes on yeah you know the kind
Flashing up pictures of a child in need
For a dime a day you could save a life
Do you call the number, reach out a hand
Or do you change the channel, call it a scam
Or do you tell yourself
You’re just a fool
Just a fool to believe you can change the world
Don’t listen to ’em when they say
You’re just a fool
Just a fool to believe you can change the world
Oh, the smallest thing can make all the difference
Love is alive, don’t listen to ’em when they say
You’re just a fool
Just a fool to believe you can change the world
The world’s so big it can break your heart
And you just want to help not sure where to start
So you close your eyes, and send up a prayer into the dark
You’re just a fool
Just a fool to believe you can change the world
Don’t listen to ’em when they say
You’re just a fool
Just a fool to believe you can change the world
Oh, the smallest thing can make all the difference
Love is alive, don’t you listen to ’em when they say
You’re just a fool
Just a fool to believe you can change the world
