As a working photographer, this picture isn't the best. Whoever photographed her, what were you thinking?? Carrie is gorgeous all around but the sun glare definitely does not flatter her at all. Hot spots are the worst in this case, and the face is under exposed. Definitely not the best time to be shooting for a cover. Noon sun is the worst. Despite it all, she looks great!
I'm a fan (and you should be too) because...
Carrie Underwood is awesome. 
It's as simple as that. I don't know how else to put it. She is indeed, The American Idol, by all accounts. Her voice is unlike any Music Artist's that I've ever heard before. I can't help but turn up the radio when her songs start playing.
I can't put my finger on it, and I probably never will be able too, but It's just something about Carrie Underwood, that I just love. Maybe because She appears to be as normal as all of us? Then again, most country stars do. But Carrie does it best, if you ask me!

A Photographer's Critique
Ooh this is a tough one, the picture overall is questionable. Aesthetically the pose is unnatural. I think I would have chose a different position in this case. The dress itself looks gorgeous on her! However, the pose itself isn't working with the frame. Personally I would have moved in closer for a better composition. I think Carrie herself makes this picture outstanding, but aesthetically as a photograph it's not strong.
