Carrie Underwood Visits Fallon and More Leading up to Her Role as Maria in The Sound of Music Live!

Excitement Builds toward the Three-Hour Musical Event Broadcast, with Cast Soundtrack Release on December 3; “Making of” Special Airing November 27

Carrie Underwood fans will have multiple opportunities to see the six-time GRAMMY® winner as the days count down to her performance as Maria in the December 5 airing of NBC’s three-hour television production, The Sound of Music Live!, based on the original musical. In addition to her previously announced appearance during the first hour of The 87th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®, Underwood will also appear on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Thanksgiving night, Thursday, November 28.

On November 27, viewers will get a look behind the scenes of one of the holiday season’s most anticipated new family broadcasts – including casting, rehearsals, and the making of the companion soundtrack – when NBC debuts the hourlong special, The Making of The Sound of Music Live!, airing at 8 PM ET.

The 87th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air on Thursday, November 28, from 9 AM – noon, with an encore presentation from 2 – 5 PM (all time zones), on NBC.

Also starring TV and theater star Stephen Moyer and Tony Award winners Audra McDonald, Christian Borle and Laura Benanti, The Sound of Music Live! will air from 8 – 11 PM ET on December 5, on NBC. Last week, NBC posted a special “First Look – The Sound of Music Live!” preview clip, online here.

The Sound of Music Live! will also be released on DVD on December 17.

The companion soundtrack to the live broadcast will be available online and in stores on December 3 from Sony Masterworks. “The Sound of Music” — Music from the NBC Television Event will include studio recordings for all of the musical numbers performed by the cast in the live broadcast. The album is available for pre-order here.

Since releasing her debut album in 2005, Carrie has sold over 15 million albums and charted 18 #1 singles, nine of which she co-wrote. Her current album, Blown Away, made history by debuting at #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums Chart, making Carrie only the second country artist in the 47-year history of the chart to have each of their first four albums debut at #1. The now Platinum-selling Blown Away album also debuted at #1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart, making Carrie only the second country artist in history to have three consecutive albums debut at #1. She is a six-time GRAMMY® winner, a two-time Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year, a three-time Country Music Association and ACM Female Vocalist winner, and a proud member of the Grand Ole Opry.

Carrie, you did an incredible job on Sound of Music. You truly have a God-Given voice and talent. There will always be those who just are mean, or ignorant and, unfortunately, we can't get away from those. I think some people at least, tried to compare live theatre to a movie. It's just not the same thing! God is truly promoting you in all areas of the talent He gave you. He is the One who promotes or demotes! Just stay close to the Lord Jesus and you will go far, not only in your singing but by being used to build the Kingdom of God in these days. God Bless and keep you! Gail Crockett, Reno

Dear Carrie, My husband and I LOVED "The Sound of MUSIC" - it thrilled our hearts! Thank you for all the work you did to prepare, along with the entire cast - it was a perfect match! Your voice was perfect for the part of Maria! God bless you and as you continue to serve Him so faithfully! Merry Christmas to you and yours!

What a wonderful performance, Carrie, congratulations!!! I thought you were terrific and the rest of the cast well chosen. Also wanted to say that I thought your comments on the criticism were very classy. You are a real star Smiling

I would just like to say we had three generations watching you and the cast. Myself, my daughter and my two granddaughters. LOVED IT LOVED IT!!!! Thank you for taking that chance.

I was overwhelmed by Carrie's wonderful singng, acting and performance. Her comment about mean people needing Jesus and prayer was just perfect. Isahia 54:17 "No weapon formed against you will prevail." Psalm 86:17 "God will show a sign of his goodness to Carrie and bring shame to those people".
Pray for your enemies... God will give you victory in the end. I will pray for Carrie to have the courage to continue to do that and in the end, there will be a powerful witness to these mean people. Just keep praying for them Carrie... no weapon will prevail!

Congrats Carrie on a fine performance in the Sound of Music!! What an enjoyable event to watch with my family. You efforts and talents were outstanding. Thank you and your staff for such a fine effort.

Best,

A new fan from Chicago!

NO ONE ELSE COULD HAVE DONE THIS PERFORMANCE THE WAY YOU DID IT!!! ORIGINAL STUFF, HERE OK!!! BEEN WAITING AWHILE FOR SOMEONE TO DO THIS TYPE OF THING FOR "THE SOUND", WITH THE GRACE AND FIRST CLASS STYLE YOU INHERENTLY HAVE. QUITE A TRIBUTE TO THE ORIGINAL SHOWING FROM ROGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN, AND JULIE ANDREWS!!!!!!!!!!! I MEAN, 18 MILLION VIEWERS CAN'T BE ALL WRONG! I COULD GO ON AND ON. WHAT'S NEXT! LOVE YOU

Show was fantastic. Everybody did a great job.
I hope Carrie does more musicals. I was impressed

What a terrific job last night! Was texting with family members and we all were just amazed at how smoothly the whole cast and crew pulled off the show and how wonderful the show was!!!! You were a great Maria! I have been a huge Sound of Music fan and had a chance to go to Germany and Austria in my 20's so I definitely included the Sound of Music tour in my travel. That made my trip! I stood in the gazebo!!! So I have loved this show and all the songs for sooo many years and I was just soooo proud and happy with y'alls performance last night! Thanks for all your hard work on the show!!! And as usual, another fantastic performance by you!

I really enjoyed the Sound of Music last night and sharing that experience with my 7 year old. You didn't miss a cue or line which was unimaginable in a 3 hour performance. Kudos to you the entire cast and crew and I look forward to following your career.

I first saw Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music as a child in the 1960's. My parents had the soundtrack and I sang along to all the songs so many times that I still know most of the lyrics. I just finished watching last night's show (DVRd) and I have to say Carrie did the part justice with her beautiful voice and soul. From what I know of her, she could have been Maria in another time and place. Bravo sweetie! Ya done good.

Thank you so much. It was amazing to sit with my two youngest (10 and 12) and watch this classic. My daughter talked about it and her favorite parts all the way to school. Magical and worth letting them stay up late. Keep up the good work. I would love to see more events like this.

We so enjoyed the performance. It was like having front row seats at the theater... but... then having beer & hotdogs sold in the isles between acts. Nothing against the sponsor, just didn't seem to fit with the caliber / class of the show.

I have seen The Sound of Music so many times, I know every word. Mom and I loved the live production, it was outstanding! My mom and hope it will eventually be available on DVD. We feel that Maria von Trapp would have been pleased at the adaptation.

Outstanding performance! As a young girl this was one of my favorite movies, made my little brother sit through it three times at the theater (he still reminds me of that 40 years later). I hope this comes out on DVD. Thank you so much for a clean, family musicale with a dynamic cast.

The production last night was absolutely wonderful! Its so great to see that wholesome entertainment and quality is still in style. You were perfect for the role of Maria and I think this will be one of those family holiday go to presentations for many years to come. Great job Carrie. Again you are a shining example for American young girls to want to grow up and be like. Blessings and a very Merry Christmas to you and your family!

I've never seen the original Sound of Music ~ (I KNOW....don't ask...the original movie is on it's way from Amazon today!)
Carrie, I thought you did a wonderful job - I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. You and the entire movie cast did a wonderful job.
Thank you for bringing a classic to today's generation as my little girls (4 & 6) can't wait to watch the original movie when it comes in.I will also be buying the soundtrack of last night's movie! I am looking forward to singing all of those wonderful songs with my little girls & granddaughter!
You have brought a love of musicals in our home. Thank you Carrie for your wonderful performance!
Merry Christmas and Many Blessings~
