I don't know when the eligibility period is or what criteria must be met but i did find this.

The Process

Any mention of the CMA Awards elicits the question, "How are the winners chosen?" The answer to that query does much to explain why the CMA Awards are so highly regarded and coveted by the recipients.

CMA award winners are chosen in voting by industry professional members of the Country Music Association. Thus, award winners are honored by their peers in the music industry. The staff of CMA does not participate in the voting process.

The awards criteria, rules of election and balloting procedures are established by CMA's Board of Directors. Singles, albums, music videos, and qualifying products for the musical event must have been first released during the eligibility period. The election is conducted in three rounds as follows:

1. Each CMA member may nominate one act in each category on the first ballot. The top 20 qualified vote recipients that receive at least 10 votes in each category will become an official nominee and will then be submitted to the entire CMA membership on the second ballot.
2. On the second, ballot CMA members must vote for up to five nominees in each category. The results are tabulated, and the five receiving the most votes in each category are listed as finalists on the third ballot.
3. On the final ballot, members vote for one in each category to determine the winners.

The entire balloting process is conducted and certified by the international accounting firm Deloitte & Touche LLP.

I'm a giant Carrie fan but she hasn't really done much this year because she's been working on "Play On" which is fantastic so far. She is however nominated for Female Vocalist of the year, which she will win for the 4th time, and her and Randy Travis are nominated for best musical event, which they will win as well AND song of the year for I Told You So. Once Play On comes out, Carrie will be nominated for Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Single of the Year, pretty much every mayor award. I do believe Taylor will win Entertainer of the Year see how she did sell the MOST albums in the U.S this year.

Did you ever notice how every one of Taylor's songs sounds the same and the songs she writes for Miley sound the same---every song has the same beat just different words----also Taylor is just bubble gum---which song is really country? I hear her continiously on regular radio. So why is she up for Country Entertainer of the Year?

Carrie is not being recognized the way she should be---I just watched the Diva show and they had Jordon Sparks singing country, why didn't they name Carrie one of the Divas' and have her up there singing country?

Carrie just out sings everyone, Taylor writes songs and probably knows more about that, for now, but she can't sing like Carrie and she can't perform like Carrie. Carrie out shines Taylor in everyway.

What is the problem with the CMA's Carrie is country and only want's to be country, Taylor rides the fence and they reward her for it---Taylor has a very weak voice---Taylor should not win EOTY!!!

I'm not T. Swift fan, but I predict she can win Album of the Year for Fearless and Video of the Year. And for EOTY there is a slim chance she can win this also, only if this are fans voting, her fans will surely vote for her!

On the other hand, Carrie two nominations especially Female Vocalist of the Year will bag her another award.

I'm still puzzle why Carrie did not nominated for EOTY award since she already won the ACM EOTY, perhaps CMA bias do you think?

Well I am afraid with this kenya west thing going on, it will be her to win out of pitty..if carrie can't have it i want keith urban or brad paisley. but i am worried.that is my opinion i hope i am so wrong. I thought you had to be able to sing, not be a teenie bopper

I just think it's because she hasn't done that many concerts this year. I'd say less than ten. Hince not a lot of entertaining of the public. Last year she did like a hundred and something.

taylor's good, but carrie's better. i've been a carrie fan since she first appeared on american idol and i rooted for her even then. gotta root for the homegirls and homeboys. i'm an okie and proud of it, as she is. no. we ain't in oklahoma anymore...

I know. It is so rediculous that Carrie wasnt nominated for Entertainer of the Year. And to anwser your question, Carrie won this year for Entertainer of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM's) by popular vote. She, however, wasnt even nominated for Entertainer of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards (CMA's), which will air on November 11, 2009. This is such an outrage because doesnt being the current ACM Entertainer of the Year qualify for a nomination at the CMA's. Tylor should not win by any chace. Taylor has a great talent for writing songs, but almost all her songs are love songs, which will get very old after a while. Taylor cannot, however, by any means sing and hits notes like Carrie Underwood. If Taylor tried to sing any Carrie Underwood songs, she would sound terrible becasue she has no vocal range. It is horrible. Carrie should have been nominated, and won hands down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Taylor wins I will be so angry!!!!!!!! Carrie deserves it!

Last year Carrie won Entertainer of the Year. Was that at The CMAs, the ACMs, or the CMTs?

Taylor? nominated for EOTY? That's the biggest load of crap i've ever heard...despite her recent success, i don't think she'll win. Carrie is definetly going to get female vocalist, though and most likely the performance of "I told you so"

I personally am furious that Carrie did not receive a nomination for Entertainer of the Year. Clearly she is amazingly talented and deserved a nomination, which she would have hands down won because she is so talented. I am angered that Taylor Swift has been nominated when Carrie is the reigning Entertainer of the Year for the Academy of Country Music Awards. It is obvious that Carrie could have won eoty and female vocalist at the CMA's as well, had she been nominated. I think it is bull crap and I like taylor swift but she is not that good. I dont understand it. I am so mad. I want to protest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can we get this decision changed???

I don't care if Taylor wins EOTY.Just not Female Vocalist.Carrie wasn't very active this year touring or anything she took a well deserved break.Next Year she'll get EOTY CMA.But I hope she and Randy Travis win for "I Told You So" and I hope Carrie gets Female Vocalist to me that award is about singing talent.I'm probably wrong but all the winners I know were very talented singers.

I think Carrie should woman female vocalist!! and her other nomination as well:) too bad she wasn't up for eoty but oh well she should get nominated again with her new cd out and she should begin touring again this fall to promote it! but If taylor wins female vocalist I will be very upset with that~! and I think Brad or Keith should win eoty as well! All I know is that if Carrie doesn't win, I am really going to be sad. Carrie deserves the honor of being named female vocalist of the year (again).

As much I wish that Carrie was nominated as EOTY, I believe that the CMA's eligibility period was the time that our IDOL didn't have much media exposure, concerts, big sales, etc...
Don't get me wrong here, but I think Taylor's nomination is not a shocker as she was really all over the media, doing a lot of concerts and her Fearless CD was really a huge success.
I will be suprise if Taylor wins EOTY, I think it should be Keith or Brad.

A SHOCKER will be if Carrie doesn't wins Female Vocalist of the Year and a HUGE SHOCKER if Taylor wins. Taylor's vocal is no way close to all the other nominees in the category. Let's hope Carrie wins both nominations.
